Me and My College

I have been associated with MLDC for 21 years, 4 years as a student (1975-1979) and 17 years as a lecturer since 1994. College is a place where a person spends the prime of his/her youth; and I enjoyed doing that.

I have been associated with MLDC for 21 years, 4 years as a student (1975-1979) and 17 years as a lecturer since 1994. College is a place where a person spends the prime of his/her youth; and I enjoyed doing that.

During my first innings as a student, the teachers of this college molded my personality and at the same time, the college environment afforded me the necessary freedom to express my real me. There never was a day when I felt alone, depressed or suffocated. The friendship that developed in my student age has evolved with the passage of time. And I am happy to state that I made great friends and grew in intense relationship with my colleagues as well as my teachers.

I played my first innings as MLDC as a shining student. I still remember the College Elections, the Planning Forum, the College Annual Day, the Reading of Fish Ponds in Annual Functions, the Students’ Council Meetings and of course the examinations. I still cherish and remember the evening when our Principal accompanied me to a Rotary Club meeting where I received the Best Student Award amongst all colleges in the vicinity of Western Suburbs.

When I resumed my second innings as teacher of this great college, I was greeted by eleven colleagues in the staffroom, who had been my teachers once upon a time. That was in itself very extraordinary. Now I see college Annual Functions, Prize Distribution Ceremony and examination from the other side of the table. I always strive to pass on to my students all that I have received from my teachers. And I consider myself to be fortunate. Most important, I enjoy each day in the college.

I have purposely avoided citing any names, because if I remember a hundred, I would have missed out another hundred.

I believe in reincarnation. If I have another birth in Mumbai, I shall be happy to once again be a student of MLDC, celebrating 1000 glorious years.
