I am delighted to learn that MLDC Alumni Association is celebrating its completion of an eventful decade and bringing out a souvenir ‘SMRUTIGRANTH’ to commemorate the occasion to be circulated to Alumni of M.L.Dahanukar College of Commerce & Economics, as well as to the Principals of colleges in Mumbai. I am sure, ‘SMRUTIGRANTH’ would carry thought provoking features that would challenge the status quo.

There are broadly three sets of agencies in the economy, viz. Government, Corporate and NGOs, which directly or indirectly contribute to the development of the economy and the prosperity of the society. These agencies have the responsibility to raise and use public resources as trustees for the benefit of the stakeholders and therefore, their governance holds the key for sustaining the prosperity and the posterity on the earth. Of these, the corporate agencies have, of late, evolved to be the prime mover of the society and the economy, and this century is justifiably focused on corporate governance all over the globe.

The think tanks and the authorities are continuously engaged in evolving and refining he corporate governance framework. The implementation of the framework at the grass root level requires a pool of trained and skilled governance professionals. The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, a statutory body established under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, is engaged in building this pool of professionals called company secretaries. These professionals whether in practice or employment, under the regulatory oversight of the institute, act as in-house governance officers in corporate sector to ensure wealth creation consistent with the laws of the land and the interests of the various stakeholders.

The institute offers company sercretaryship course which has three levels, viz. Foundation, Executive and Professional. A student, who passed 10 + 2 can register for the Foundation Program, while a graduate can seek registration for the Executive Program. On completion of all the three levels and the required internship and training, his/her name is entered in the register of members on the Institute. Thereafter, he/she becomes eligible to work as company secretary In a company or practice as a company secretary. This profession offers challenging opportunities and a fantastic career graph while contributing to prosperity of the society.

I wish the celebration of the MLDC Alumni Association all success.
